High-Impact Literacy Services

Jenica Semler compassionate reading specialist

Literacy Illuminated LLC offers private, one-to-one instruction for children struggling with, or seeking to enrich, their phonological awareness, letter and number formation, reading, writing, and spelling. Our team presents ideas and information clearly, using multisensory techniques and routines to provide a deeper, more lasting level of learning.

At Literacy Illuminated, we prioritize establishing and maintaining strong relationships with each child. We closely monitor changes and growth, continuously reflecting on and refining our methods to meet individual learning needs. Literacy Illuminated is a professional member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), the International Literacy Association (ILA), and Decoding Dyslexia groups.

Services

  • Specialized private tutoring is often appropriate for students struggling with reading, writing, or spelling and students with learning differences, including ADHD, Autism (L1/2), Dyslexia, Hyperlexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Anxiety, and/or Executive Functioning differences. We also strengthen the critical thinking skills of on-grade-level students and twice-exceptional children.

The Orton-Gillingham approach is highly effective in helping students with language-based differences. Our approach is hands-on, backed by science, systematic, and sequential.

  • In addition to Orton-Gillingham multisensory learning, we offer academic support and coaching. This includes assisting students in developing important academic and life skills, such as effective study practices, organizational strategies, test-taking strategies, and developing their self-efficacy.

Literacy Illuminated can assist schools by providing SoR-aligned screeners, in-house professional development on each strand of language comprehension (building background knowledge, expanding vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning, and literacy knowledge), and word recognition (phonological awareness, decoding, sight word recognition/automaticity).

We support with ELA curriculum development, assist in developing partnerships with parents and organization of school literacy nights and similar events. We are also available to provide 1:1 or small group literacy instruction, hands-on math, body doubling, notetaking support, and study skills instruction.

  • Literacy Illuminated can help you to interpret progress reports, test results, writing samples, and other feedback received from your child's school.

We are available to consult with parents regarding the development of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 plan. We provide a fresh eye on the supports currently provided and help parents advocate for any additional supports their child might benefit from. If invited, we will sit in with you on your child's IEP or 504 meetings.

When likely to be helpful, we are available to conduct classroom learning observations and provide parents with specific, child-focused feedback.
